As hard as I worked on my home-building business over the years, I still took time to enjoy my favorite pastime. I have many precious memories from our hunting trips to the Colorado Mountains and moose hunting in Ontario. Yet it is difficult to say which were the best hunts. For example, during our...

The opening of whitetail deer season in Iowa was October 1st and the 1st brought the first rain that our part of Iowa had seen for about a month. Not a lot of rain but enough to discourage an eager entry into the woods. The weather is still fairly warm and there are crops everywhere. For the novice...

I've been hunting for as long as I can remember. The first hunt I ever went on with my dad, he had to change my diapers. My first real hunting memory is sitting on a tree stand and snuggling under my dad's coat. To this day, I can still smell the musky scent of that old coat.

Walking from a dirt road down into a hollow my 9 year old son, Nathan and I noted large deer tracks in the dirt. The slope was steep enough that the tracks were not clear and distinct. With each step the deer slid four or five inches the way we might slide downhill walking in snow. "Did a big deer...

The limbs of trees, naked to the very branch, so stark here amidst the multitudes of hardwoods that abound on the northern tier. A harsh time for some, but invigorating to me as I find myself once more in these climes, at this time of year, another hunting season at camp.

I took up hunting last year for the first time where I live in the East Kootenay Region of British Columbia. After wetting my feet in the Elk Season without success, I was successful in harvesting a small 2x1 point whitetail buck on October 15th, 2002 and despite little success in the muley hunt,...

I love to still-hunt. Especially on mornings after it has rained all night, when I can stalk silently through a perceived bedding area. On one morning in 1996, I was creeping along with a slight breeze in my face with the sun rising in the east behind me. This patch of woods that I was penetrating...
